The house is a stage; the house is a cage.

The body is a stage; the body is a cage.

Instagram is a stage; Instagram is a cage.

Inspired by Gothic genre writings of female authors such as Shirley Jackson, Edith Wharton, and Odessa Moshfegh, Dollhouse - a work-in-progress - features the materialistic trappings of decorated, domestic spaces as a narrative setting of demise.

In this work, we witness an updated female character, shifting yet shackled to the confines of her home, outfits, and self that she spends endless effort to perfect. Although the material objects of the home and dress consist of a literal and physical cage, social media serves as a modern, surreal stage. Fast fashion fills the wardrobe and YouTube tutorials provide the styling. Meanwhile, ghosts from bygone eras continue to haunt her existence.

What will happen to this woman - a construct of society that we all know so well - as she searches in isolation for connection and validation through our current digital arena? Is there any escape?
